RECORDS of the GENETICS SOCIETY OF AMERICA Number Eighteen PUBLISHED BY THE SECRETARY-TREASURER M. R. Irwin, Department of Genetics The University of Wisconsin Madison 6, Wisconsin 1949 pee ae a ae edema AB PROCEEDINGS OF MEETINGS ;| The Sixteenth Annual Meeting at Washington, D..C. This meeting of the Genetics Society of America was held in Wash- 4 ington. D. C. on September 11, 12, and 13, immediately preceding the Centennial Celebration of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Thus it was possible for those who wished, to attend the ses; sions of the Centenary. The meeting was held in association with severa other biological societies under the auspices of the newly organized Ame ican Institute of Biological Societies. The arrangements, combined with. ideal weather, were certainly conducive to very successful meetings. The sessions on the first day were held at the George Washington i University. The morning session of short papers was attended by some- what over 150 persons. Although there were not as many demonstration papers in the afternoon as were given at the two preceding meetings, this session was well attended. een Lert: The Executive Committee met on Saturday afternoon and, among other items of business of the Society, elected 12 new members; 4 were dropped for non-payment of dues. *- : President L. H. Snyder had appointed Drs. R. A. Brink, J. H. Crow, C. L. Huskins, and Joshua Lederberg as a program committee to assist in arranging the program for these meetings. This committee decided, among other things, that it was advisable to schedule two concurrent sessions on Sunday morning, September 12, and to leave the afternoon free to the attending members. This decision represents a departure from the previous custom of the Society, but concurrent sessions of short papers appear definitely to be a necessity in the future. Somewhat, over 150 persons were in attendance at one or the other of the two ses- sions. Following the luncheon at the Hotel Roger Smith, the annual businest 3 meeting was held, with over 100 members present. President L. H. Sny. » der presided. The minutes of the previous meeting were printed in the ; “Oy 4 Records of the Genetics Society of America for 1948 (No. 17) and dis- d tributed to all members of the Society. These were approved as printed. I ne NS ae i RR axis ag ee es er Se ath Side TB A.
