Ed Tatum raised with me recently the issue of an honorary
degree from Columbia for B. 0. Dodge. It seems our
Botany Department has on several occasions made such a
proposal to no avail. I am trying to reinitiate this
nomination and have told our President that I have
asked you to write an appraisal of Dodge's scholarly
activities. I realize that such an award has little
scientific value, but I do believe that the human
aspect warrants your cooperation. TI would very much
appreciate it if you would write Grayson Kirk your
thoughts on this matter.
