ISTITUTO DI GENETICA UNIVERSITA DI PAVIA Pavia Telefoni: 23.029; 29.038 - Indirizzo telegrafico: Istgenetica - March 20, 1968 ° VIA SANT’EPIFANIO, 14 Dr. J. Lederberg 27100 - PAVIA Department of Genetics Stanford Medieal School Stanford University Palo Alto, California Dear Josh: I am quite happy to see that my skepticism was not justified. Luca has also shown me a letter of the C.N.R. indicating that they have allotted a certain amount of money for the Stanford-Pavia project. In any case, however, a long stay in Stanford this year is impossible. I have to be once in a while in Cagliari and be- sides if I wish to be called in Pavia I have got to stay around to persuade, soothe and cajole the local chieftains. However, I think that I could come for a couple of months (e.g. September and October). In such a period of time I could get down to write with you and Sergio those infamous papers and in addition try to do some work. Polsino has got a couple of mutants that appear to be rather interesting and I am sure that we may think some crazy experiments to do. (Paola is mad as hell since for such a short period of time it will be financiajly impossible to move the entire tribe and she will have to stay home!). We are thrilled at the second good news of your letter. I think I do remember Marguerite Kirsch. Is she a pediatrician or, in any case, was she working part-time with you on some medico-statistical project? Is she a cute, bright looking look- ing burette? I don't want to appear nosy but you have succeeded in arousing my curiosity! We are expecting the public announcement. Ciao. dure
