Dear Esther and Josh:

I hope you won't mind if I combine my thankeyous and the covering letter
for Kim's bibliography. We have both been frantically busy since we

got back from our Madison-Chicago trip, in fact so much so tht Kim did
not get to Woods Hole last weekend after all, and I went on Wednesday
and took B.J., and returned here Saturday morning. We would have come
Friday night on a Viscount, but much to B.J.'s disappointment there

was no more room for us. As it was we got a regular, ordinay plane
Saturday morning, and who cams in and sat two wats ahead of us but Mr.
Stevenson. When he got off in Washington we trailed after him, and B.Je
finally got to shake hands with him and he said howedo-youedo and other
mumbled anenities to her, she nearly swooning meanwhile. So the trip
was definitely a success.

Kim is sorry that he didn't have time to write you befare he left, but

at any rate here is the bibliography. I am supposed to tell you that
there is no one whose name he can give you as a reference about his cline
ical work when he was interning. He went at it fairly halfpheartedly,

as I imagine you know, and both of us fail to see what value a letter
from any of those guys would have in this case. We had always assumed
his reputation had been made as a biologist, not a clinician]

Madison must be beautiful, now that spring is really there. You both
were certainly wonderful to us and we thoroughly ehjoyed ourselves. I
haven't eaten so much in months, and I haven't stopped since, uwmtil this
week, when I found on going to the doctor in New York that I have gained
14 pounds. This isn't too much at all, but I didn't want to gain more
than 10 in nine months, so now I'm busy trying to reduce. I imagine it
can be done, since the little things are parasitic on the mother and
live in spite of her, so we'll see,

Kim left last night at 6, but is in Washington until Friday. The last
few days were wild, as you can imagine, but now it is far too quiet,
and I hate to see his grey Studebaker just sitting mutely at the curb
in front of the house waiting for hém. I think I'll Have to get out and
exercise it a bit, and mail this to youe Thanks for being such fine
hosts, and our warm regards to you both,

P.S. Do you suppose the vouchers could be sent here and I could sign
them? Kim's travelling expenses up there and back were close to $100
and our budget is practically non-existent at this point! I am leaving
for Woods Hole June 3, if not soaner. If it weren't for school I'd go
now, Since it seems pointless to stay here without Kim, and I can't wait
watiade he does come backs

Another pe8. I almost forgot our cmegratulations on the Academy - it
is wonderful, only couldn't you have picked better company than A. Hole
laender? The day after we got back from your place Kimwent in to con-
gratulate the old coot (it has certainly put him in a good frame of
mine - he loves everyone in the biology div. at this point) and before
Kim could say anything Hollaender told him he was putting through a
raise for him. We suspect he got wind of what the Scotsman was noising
about at Gatlinburg! That seems to be the only way to do it.
