Dear Admiral Gayler:

I was very glad to have a chance to talk to you
at the Defense Seience Board. You mentioned something
about wishing to stay in touch, and particularly that
New York might be convenient for you with your family
here.

I would certainly enjoy that and I suspect that
there is a great deal about this campus, although its
specialty of biomedical research is somewhat removed
from your own, that might strike a resonant chord with
you. I am enclosing some material that might convey
some of that spirit although the most pertinent item is
now at the printer and I will send it to you ina few
weeks.

In fact, if it should happen to be convenient for
you to visit us during one of our designated Evenings
as described on the attached description I would be more ©
than happy to see you then. However, please don't fail
to take advantage of any more casual opportunity that
may come your way.

EVENINGS AT THE ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY

For several years, we have organized "Evenings at The
Rockefeller University" as a vehicle for describing our work
pro bono humani to a-wider public. These informal dinner
meetings have helped us share information about the institu-
tion's scientific and educational activities with leaders of
the. New_York.area's professional, social and-civic-communi- -
ties. ,

We will hold additional "Evenings" this fall on campus.
including several trustees, faculty members and other guests
invited for each occasion. The current series has been sched-
uled for Tuesday, October 16, Monday, December 3, 1979, Thurs-
day, February 28 and Tuesday, April . 22, 1980 from six to
ten o'clock. ,

Our ‘usual format has been as follows: following a re-
ception and dinner in Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Hall, we will
adjourn to Caspary Auditorium where three of the University's
senior scientists and I will discuss highlights of the Univer-
sity’s current achievements in applying basic biomedical sci-
ences to the solution of major health problems. The presenta-
tions are directed to a non-professional audience and I be-
lieve you would find them and your company of interest.

More specific information concerning arrangements for the
evening will be sent upon acceptance.
