received much reinforcement, as attested by the amission from the

beargopoulas at a meeting leads her to concitude that she would
mot be interested in communicating with him; and I must say that
Po didn’t find his paper very elegant. But the finding that

is interesting, even though he missed the key connection with its
already known interference with methionine synthesis.

Have you seen the recent Year Book of the Carnegie Inst. Maxine
Sanger ’s introductory essay contains a forthright, thoughtful
statement on the misconduct issue. It reinforces my feeling that
she might be an excellent Fresident of the NAS -- which I think
has been handling that issue in an GXessively timid way. If you
agree, would you talk with other members about supperting her -
nomination to the committee that is now soliciting suqqestions?

I’m pleased ta be able to report that physiotherapy -- simply
several hours a day of using my leg muscies -—- has resulted

in extraordinary restoration of strength. A couple of months aga
{ had to lean on a walker after each pair of steps, and maw I can
climb a flight of stairs and am even beginning to walk with
Canes. More important, I've been free of pain and able to
continue to work, sa I can be cheerful about this phase af my
life as a dividend. And I was fortunately able ta complete an
autabicagraghical essay for Ann. Rev. Microbial.
