UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE WESTERN PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE AND CLINIC 3811 O'HARA STREET PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA 15213 July 6, 1967 Joshua Lederberg, M.D. Professor of Genetics Stanford University School of Medicine Palo Alto, California 94304 Dear Dr. Lederberg: Joahue It was a pleasure to receive your letter of June 26, 1967, containing numerous items of interest about your recent activities. I hope that you had a good trip to Europe, but this is hardly a novelty. I am not at all startled that you received an invitation to join the National Advisory Mental Health Council because they are interested in genuine, competent, and dedicated workers; and I am pleased that you accepted because I am sure that you can bring much wider scope and depth to our deliberations than they might suspect because of your basic affiliations, I am sure that you will try to avoid simplistic, doctrinaire views. I will do my best to interest the editors of the Pittsburgh Post- Gazette, which is the morning paper, and the Pittsburgh Press, which is the evening paper, in your columns, Unfortunately, I do not have a good personal acquaintance with the current editors, but I will follow up during the year as various opportunities appear. It is good to know that the domestic turbulence has subsided so that you may seek new states of serenity. With all good wishes. Cordially, Hawk Henry W. Brosin, M.D. Director HWB/meq wisoy g
