Dear Sol:
As you may know I'm up here now working on bacterial mutations comparable

to those in Neurospora, For various purposes, I've hoped to try to do the same

on a yeast. I have no intention of genetic analysis of Sacchareamyces by micro-

manipulatory dissection of asci; I should be satisfied with a form which I can

obtain in reasonably pure haploid culture, but which can be made to sporulate

if need be, One of the Schizosaccharomyces should be sabisfactory. Can octosporus

be kapt jaqumk haploid? Or would pombe be preferable, ord do you have any ideas of

your own. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have, plus cultures of

any organisms you might suggest.

* My brother, Seymour, is just mxmkr entering college in the Fall- having been
accepted at Washington and at Yale I had little hesitation in recommending the
former. Or is it just that the far$hest pastures seem the greenest?
