Dear Joshua:
I now see the significance of the lactose maltose association.  It would be a sort of 2-stage reduction, and I had forgotten how it worked.  I never had enough dealings with neurospora.
But I'm not quite ready yet to give up the project on inhibitors.  Will let you know next week.
