THE ROCKEFELLER UNIVERSITY pro bono humani generis 1230 YORK AVENUE - NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10021-6399 Joshua Lederberg UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR October 13, 1994 Dr. Arnold M. Ludwig U. of Ky. Dear Arnold: I’ve had no very recent further news about your book: I trust it is proceeding smoothly. A question: Re: Domestic Science. ( Asoe toy, yer wale) I perhaps I could answer it readily enough by searching your text, but you could do it off the top of your head. What did you learn about mate-choices on the part of your subjects? I am particularly interested in the kinds of wives (you define the typology) that intellectuals, scientists ... chose, or ended up with; and not to leave out second or plural choices. I‘d be fascinated by the converse question for outstanding women: you may have very thin statistics, but remind me whom you surveyed. The (few) women I have been involved with, and notably my first and my current wife are both accomplished professionals -- but I reflect that was not the norm in my generation. There may be elementary demographic considerations. But do you have statistics? Best wishes, ours sincerely, Joshua Lederberg
