Permission necessary for reproduction -------------------------------------------------------------------- Massachusetts Institute of Technology Boston Nov. 1, 1906 Dear Dr. Blakeslee:- I am very much obliged to you for copies of your capital papers on "Sex Reproduction in the Mucorineae", on "Differ- entiations of Sex in Thallus Gametophyte and Sporophyte", and the announcement of your botanical charts, all of which I am very glad to have. I really wish that we could afford the luxury of a man like you and if we get a live president who puts us in better financial condition, I shall try hard to have somebody. Meantime if you are in the vicinity of Copley Square at any time, drop in and see us; you will always be welcome. Sincerely yours, W. T. Sedgwick ============ JL note 3/2/2000: C E Rosenberg pointed me to this evidence of the difficulty A Blakeslee had in locating a job to do fungal genetic research. That set the field back by perhaps 35 years. I allude to this in P39. It is also an interesting commentary on MIT! Node: Sedgwick, William T. (1855-1921). In 1901 he was professor of biology and public health at MIT. He was notable, i.a., for advocating chlorine for water disinfection. (Cf. SAM-149).
