240  Kaibab Myth

     C. J. Burk's note (Biosciences, Feb. '73) deflating the "Kaibab
Deer Myth" should be helpful in promoting a more critical attitude
about accepted dogmas in many fields besides field ecology.  But Burk
did not do all that he might have to help the oppressed text-book
writer from misleading his readers.  Namely, he neglected to cite the
original mythmakers in his bibliography.  Had he done so, careful re-
viewers in future might have been sure of finding his critique by
looking for commentary on Leopold, A. (1943) or Rasmussen, D.I. (1941)
in the Science Citation Index.
