In the drafting of a scientific biography, the published literature offers
ample documentation about the subject's accomplishments in the lines of work
he had established. In this case, Ed Tatum himself has also recorded a good
deal about the intellectual framework of the ideas that he pursued in the
laboratory.

There remains the task of identifying the seeming discontinuities: starts

and the moves in his professional life: the fields of his interest; the -
institutions that he joined; the groups that he influenced. Here we must look
beyond the scientific literature, to more personal papers and revelations: to
identify relevant questions as well as to locate the answers.

Attached is a brief biographic outline and some of the pending questions.
That list may well need to be augmented, and your help in that regard, as well
as in furnishing new data, would be greatly appreciated.
