Dear Josh:

We were delayed a day in departing from Madison, chiefly because we
had more to haul t..an had been planned for, Outside of that, the trip was
rather uneventful, We made it in two days as before, but with two additional
hours driving each day, Hauling 1500 pounds was no problem after one remembered
that it required additional stopping space,

We are confortably located in a two bedroom apartment at 2287 Olive
(Apt. 9), about two or three blocks frase my brother's home,

I was pleased to hear of the meeting at Balt more and of your exchanges
with Kalckar and look forward to Esther's more detailed account.

I hope that you can get the finer details of Jaeob's experiments
worked out at Ann Arbor, I would like to hear more of these and will have to
write to him in Paris and get on the mailing list. I'm not gure that I will
understand mapping in terms of "time of penetration" but should at least cive
it a try.

I have not talked with Ted yet, as he is on vacation until "riday
next; and I have not heard whether ‘otchkiss is here, I will look up a mmber
of people the first of next week, when I am “officially in",

I was disappointed to hear that Mat Hartman had "botched" the job
at Baltimore. J can't figure out why he did, There was nothing in the Me
on position affect beyond the 1,l; interaction and | don't believe that he
could have deduced anything fraa the other data in the paper. Hartman has
never acknowledged receipt of the Ma, and I am disappointed in him for this
aspect also,

Keep me posted on our relationship with Kalekar's experiments, 7
have not gotten into c«perimental work yet. I have most of the things to do,
except pipette cans, and test tube racks, which are not absolutely necessary,
but a lack of them is a bit of a limitation. I believe all my lysates and
cultures survived the trip well, at least the ones I have examined (visually).

I have to report a disappointment on the dictating machine, for it
ia a Dictaphone and uses a belt~-like record, Perhaps after a bit I may get
a tape recorder, I've already begun to look for discomt houses,

The weather has been fine here as might have been expected and it
hag been enjoyable to get up and feel cold in the mornings, I hope that you
and iether enjoy Ann Arbor and Woods Hole and that you will send me any
additional information you may pick up.

P.S. Attended two meetings at Fitesimona on tuberculosis, ‘They really need
& wore rapid method for teating for drug susceptibility, I hope to
hear more from you and Dexter Goldman on this aspect. Aoger was in-
quiring of vour sucesss in this area also,
