Dear Dr. Lederberg:

As you know, it is the custom of the Society
to publish in its Year Book biographical memoirs
its deceased members. As editor of the Year
Book, I am writing to ask whether you would be
willing to provide an essay on Dr. George W. Beadle.

The memoirs, which cften include personal
reminiscences as well as description and evaluation
of the subject's career, are generally around
fifteen hundred words in length.

If you could do this, it would be a great
service, and a splendid addition to the Year Book.
