Dear Joshua,

this is to keep you up to date
with Interist.

No final decision has been taken
yet. We have received a formal dismissal of the
contract within the legal deadline and thus our fi-
nancement should end with July 1964. We have how-
ever received,not formal offers, but hints that
offers for renewal might be forthcoming both from
Lepetit and, less clearly, from Schering. We will
hear about Schering's proposals, if any, in Decen-
ber or January, when luca will go there, while Le-
petit will be in a position to make a formal offer
only in Febraary or March. They are now undergoing
chayges and have requested us not to make a sepa-
rate agreement with Schering before consulting
them.

In the present circumstances, we
can only guarantee,‘in:accord with our agreemant,
to pay your fees for the period January-June 1964,
as our present contract with Interist expires at
the latter date. But we would be very grateful if
you would not take other engagements for consulting

on antibacterial substances until the end of March
1964, or at least until one of us will see you.

We have been testing some fluoro
. DAP derivatives. The experiments are not complete,
but there is nothing exciting sofar. We will re-
sume fluoropoiesis soon.

Giovanni is now in the chair at
Parma.
