NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OFFICE OF THE HOME SECRETARY 2101 CONSTITUTION AVENUE WASHINGTON, D.C. 20418 (202) 334-2480 February 5, 1982 Dr. Joshua Lederburg Annual Reviews, Inc. 41349 El Camino Way Palo Alto, CA 94306 Dear Dr. Lederburg: I write to let you know that the Council has approved the nomination of Victor A. McKusick for the 1982 James Murray Luck Award. In its recommendation the selection committee cited him-for—“preparation of rigorous and comprehensive reviews which have stimulated and guided the entire field of human genetic research in both its basic and clinical aspects." Although you probably know of McKusick's work, I am forwarding some background information which I believe will be of interest to you. This selection of a recipient seems to me a happy one and one which reflects the high degree of excellence that is identified with the James Murray Luck Prize. Each year the roster of awardees gains in distinction. It is thanks to you as an instigator of the prize, and to ANNUAL REVIEWS, Inc-., as one of its supporters that the Academy has had this unique opportunity to give recognition to scientific reviewers. The presentation will be made at the award ceremony on Monday evening, April 26, and I look forward to having you and Mrs. Lederburg join us for the celebration. A formal invitation will be on its way shortly. In the meantime, do note the date on your calendar and plan to be on hand to help us honor both J. Murray Luck and Victor McKusick. With best wishes. Sincerely, \ c. Bryce Crawford, Jr. Home Secretary Enclosure x.
