61 Columbia Street Brookline, Massachusetts 17 December 1974 Dear Dr. Lederberg, Thanks very much for your quick reply. I'm very glad that things will work out for January, and I have already arranged to be at Stanford by January 5th. Needless to say, I am really looking forward to working with you. Unfortunately, a bit of paper work needs to be done, but it should be very little trouble. As you can see on the enclosed form, "instructors" are asked to describe "course content and objectives." You are then asked to quantify the amount of work that you'll expect of me. None of this is as formal as it might sound. Just for the record, I anticipate doing about six to eight hours of reading and research per day, and then we can meet together as often as you choose. This interim period extends from January 6th to the 31st. As far as your method of eval- uating me is concerned, I know that the Curriculum Committee will be satisfied with a report from you of what we've done during the month. I will be perfectly happy to write a paper for you, if that seems profitable in light of the kinds af topics we get into. My main concern is just that the work be of interest to both of us. I am in the process of collecting relevant books and articles. Thank you for your references. I'll come to Stanford armed with more sources, and hopefully make contact with Charles Rosenberg before I leave Boston. At any rate, I will tap Harvard's resources as much as possible within the next week. If you would return this form in the enclosed envelope to the Harvard Medical School as soon as possible, I would be very grateful. Unless you care to set up a meeting now, I'll just phone your office on January 6th and hope to meet with you soon there- after. I'll come with mare ideas and questions than definite plans, and together we can determine what direction my research should take, If you should want to contact me before January 6th, I will be spending the vacation with my family at the address listed below. Best wishes for the holidays, and I look forward to meeting you. And again, many thanks for your help, until January 5: Bet Wakdimger Bob Waldinger 3663 Grand Ave.--Apt. 902 Des Moines, Iowa 50312 ‘or ‘ya oNvanyT
