THE ROCKEFELLER INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH 66TH STREET AND YORK AVENUE NEW YORK @2i,N_Y. April 1, 1959 Dr. Charles Yenofsky Department of biological Sciences Stanford University Stenford, CaLifornia Dear Charley: We have read your and Dr. Crawford's excellent paper with considerabie interest, and are returning it to you with a few Suggestions and comments, many of which are indicated in pencil on the MS, and below: (1) In regard to the tinkage map (Fig. 1) it seems worth considering including a few crosses between sites in the A and B groups other than the one b-3 x A-2. the relationship is too important to rest on one cross only. (2) Much of the discussion (pp 13 on) seems a Little too speculative, and adds Little to other previous discussions. Finally, on whether this paper should be in PNAS, I am not completely convinced that the publication therein of previous papers in the series constitutes adequate justification. My feeling is that in principle in such a series only the first one opening a new field or concept, and a final definitive paper belong here. In this regard, it would be good once in a while to have a first-rate genetic paper of this sort in a genetics journal. Notwithstanding this feeling, I wilt submit this paper, after revision, and if possible a Little condensation and tightening, to PNAS if you so desire, With best regards, Sincerely, E. L. Tat ELT: 12
