FUNCTIONS a | The Bureau of Health Resources Development (BERD) was established in July 1973 as a major component of the Health Resources Administration (HRA) - in a reorganization of the U.S Department of Health, Education, and Welfare's Public Health Service Programs. . The Bureau consists of four divisions from the former Bureau of Health . Manpower Education—--the divisions of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Associated Health Professions--and two from the former Health Services and Mental Health Administration--the divisions of Comprehensive Health Planning and Facilities : from the National Institutes of Health into the newly former HRA as part of the reorganization. 4 The Bureau focuses on production, utilization, distribution, and rationalization of human and physical resources in the health services field.
