When I wrote to you the other day, I did not realize that your letter of December 15
was here together with the autographed copy of The President's Commission on Heart
Disease, Cancer, and Siroke. I certainly appreciate this. As yet, I have not had

a chance to go over it, but it certainly looks like a beautiful document, which is,

of course, exactly what it would be since you are Chairman of the Commission. It
certainly represents 4 tremendous amount of work.

Do you think that we might be able to qualify as one of the Research Units? As you
know, we have been doing a good bit of research in cancer, and since John has been

here, we have begun to do animal research in cardiovascular disease. We are extremely
desirous of enlarging our research facilities. I should appreciate your advising us as

to whether you think we might be justified in considering making an application for a
research project. If you think it would be worth while, I should be very happy to come
over to Houston to discuss the possibility with you.

Thanks again for your thoughtfulness in sending the autographed copy of the Report

to me.
