English, Administrator of the Health Services and Mental Health Administration: "Dr. Stanley Olson has decided to return to private life and has announced his resig- nation as Director of the Regional Medical Programs Service. He has made a number of recommendations to me in order to provide for a smooth transition to new full-time leadership of the Regional Medical Programs Service and | have concurred in them. ‘Among these are his request that he be relieved of responsibility of direct operations and that he serve in an advisory and consultant capacity until his departure June |, 1970 "Accordingly, effective Tuesday, March 17, direction of the Regional Medical Pro- grams Service will be assumed by the Office of the Administrator and | am designat- ing Dr. Harold Margulies as Acting Director, Regionat Medical Programs Service... _ "Dr. Margulies has been serving with great distinction as Deputy Assistant Adminis~ _-trator for Program Planning and Evaluation since Sept. of 1969. Prior to this appoint- ' ent he had been serving in the Washington Office of the American Medical Assn., where he was Secretary of the AMA Council on Health Manpower and was respon- sible for coordinating AMA activities with the Executive Branch of the Federal Gov- ernment. From 1965 to 1967, Dr. Margulies was Associate Director of the Division of International Medical Education of the Association of American Medical Col- _ tages. He has done consultant work with the National Advisory Commission on ‘_ ealth Manpower and has been a consultant with the White House Office of Science and Technology. He also was an Advisor on Medical Education to the World Health Organization. "Dr. Margulies holds the degrees of A.B. (Philosophy, University of Minnesota, 1938), B.Sc. (Medicine, U of South Dakota, 1940); M.D. (U of Tennessee, 1942); and M.Sc.
