April 30th, 1957 Dear Dr. Shannon: With regard to the information furnished to us by the National Heart Institute covering fiscal 1956 research support granted by the Institute in the field of arteriosclerosis and cerebral vascular disease, we would be delighted to have a revised and higher estimate of research in this vital area. [Handwritten: It seems that much larger funds could be concentrated here effective with the research leads] Considering the staggering and increasing toll exacted each year by arteriosclerosis, it would be very encouraging to hear of expanded research activities against it. However, we can only put out such data as we have been able to extract from the various major sources interested in specific disease categories and trust that they are giving us accurate statistics. With all best wishes, Yours, Mrs. Albert D. Lasker Chairman
