Thanks for all the arrangements that you've concerned yourself with. I am looking forward enormously to being in the lab with all of you.
Stephanie and I arrive on Saturday, July 3, and the Traubs (Naomi and Abram on Hankin Street) are going to meet us at the airport. Perhaps someone could instruct them on where we are to be dropped.
Ed has some results indicating that our DNA infections (the RI res. defective with wild type helper) give good yields of RI res. defective, so our worries about keeping stocks are gone. We know now that the ''unique" sequences are next to the repetitive. Further, preliminary direct sequence analysis on the "unique" fragment indicate that it is a single sequence, not a mixture. The fragment will then make a fine probe for confirming the identity of unique sequences in different defectives.  It is readily labeled, with kinase, at its Hind III end, so very hot probes can be made and it hybridizes very efficiently back to the total defective on a filter. I believe we could now look at whether the unique and repetitive sequences are
together in various defectives.
