Dear Maxine and Dan,
With a bit of time and rest I've acquired a new perspective of our Asilomar experience.  Whatever happens, though, I shall never forget that incredible feeling of comradeship that developed that last night.  No one who was not there will understand.  We've come a long way since our early discussions of this matter.  I'm certain we are on the right track even if it has been and will continue to be bumpy.
Next time we can get you to California I promise it [ . . . ] to work that hard.  I'll try to show

Dan I hope I haven't been remiss in expressing my appreciation to you for your help doing the organizing part of the meeting and for the marvelous speakers and session you put together.  I'm glad it got such good coverage in the Wash Post article and in Science.
Someday we'll have to get drunk together and really allow the repressed emotions come out.
