23 January 1956 Dear Dr. Sperry: I am sorry that I shall be able to attend the meeting of the New York Academy of Sciences on 2 February, and hear your talk on biochemical research in relation to mental disease. I have become interested in this subject recently -- in fact, we have begun a little work here on phenylketonuria, and I have made plans for expanding the work. I shall not attempt to describe the several investigations that we hope to carry out. I have sent in an application to the Ford Foundation for a grant in support of our work on molecular factors in mental deficiency. Could you send me some of your reprints dealing with mental disease? With best regards, I am Sincerely yours, Linus Pauling
