December 27, 1934 Dear Professor Pauling: I take pleasure in sending you herewith a copy of the official notification of a recent action of the Executive Committee of The Rockefeller Foundation appropriating not to exceed $10,000 annually for three years beginning July 1, 1935 in support of your researches. It is understood that the authorities of the California Institute of Technology will supply $5,000 annually for the same purpose. It is our hope that this assurance of support over a three year period will give a desirable stability to your work, both in regard to staff and in regard to plans and problems. You are well aware of our interest in the possible biological and medical applications of the research in question. We are therefore particularly gratified that the Institute has found it possible to make a substantial contribution which will enable you to direct a larger proportion of our aid to the study of substances of fundamental biological importance. I need hardly tell you that we are looking forward with high confidence. Very cordially, Warren Weaver
