Dear Dr. Pauling,

Upon returning from a trip to Europe, I have learned of the
harassment to which you have been submitted by the Senate Internal
Security Subcommittee.

As one of the original signatories of your fallout st-tement in
1957, I am proud of the fact that I helped circulate it for
signatures at the University of Illinois. I only regret th t in
the few days then available we collected only about 30 signatures;
many more persons would have signed, I am sure, had they been
approached.

While I am in complete sympathy with your position with regard to
she questions asked by the Senate Subcommittee, you should feel free
to use my name as you see fit in connection with the signing and
eirculating of the satement.
