The Nobel Foundation has been informed about the decision of
The Royal Caroline Medico-Chirurgical Institute
at their session on October 16th, 1969 to award you this year's Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, jointly with Professor Max Delbruck, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif., U.S.A., and Doctor Alfred D. Hershey, Director, Genetic Research Unit, Carnegie Institution, Long Island, N.Y., U.S.A.
We beg to offer you our best congratulations and invite you to participate in the Nobel Festival in Stockholm on the Nobel Day, December l0th, in order to receive your prize in person.  We would appreciate having your answer by cable because of the time factor in connection with the preparations for the event.
For your guidance we include an Aide-Memoire regarding events in connection with the Prize Presentation Ceremony.  Should you so desire, we will advance some of the prize money through a bank indicated by you.
We ask you to please return to the Foundation at your very earliest convenience and by air-mail the enclosed Questionary regarding your intentions and your wishes.
Further we enclose a Memorandum about the material needed for our annual publication "Les Prix Nobel" as well as a form for a copyright assignment concerning your Nobel Lecture, stipulated in the Statutes of the Foundation; you will find further information regarding the assignment in the above-mentioned Memorandum. We should be most grateful to you for leaving with us before departure from Stockholm the different items enumerated in this Memorandum in order to avoid undue delay of the publication.
In case you should not be able to come to Stockholm for the Prize Presentation you are kindly requested to send at your early convenience the material indicated in the Memorandum (except the manuscript of the Nobel Lecture to be delivered later) to the Editor of "Les Prix Nobel", c/o the Nobel Foundation, address as above.

All invitation cards and other information material will be handed over to you at your arrival.
We hope that in this letter with enclosures you will find an answer to some of the questions which may present themselves to you. Should you, however, need further particulars, please do not hesitate to enquire.
