My dear Jim,
I enclose a rough draft of my paper for the January conference in New York.  As you can see it doesn't amount to much, but if you have any comments I would be glad of them.  I have also sent copies to Maurice and Alex.
I have fragments of news of you from Alfred and Belinda.  I was very pleased that you have made arrangements for Alfred.  I also hear you have a couple of research students.
Very little to report here.  I am writing hard trying to clear up my arrears of work, but I doubt if it will be quite finished before Sydney arrives.  We have not yet got the money from the MRC for the Spinco and the rest of the apparatus, but we think it may come through soon.
As to personal news: Rosalind has had two mysterious operations, but is now much better.  She came to stay with us to convalesce.  Gabrielle broke her arm, but it mended without any trouble.  Otherwise the family are fine.
I plan to be in the States for about ten days in January, but expect to spend all this in the New York area.  Will you be coming to New York.  Why not come for the conference?  Kornberg will be there, among others.  In any case it would be nice to see you.
