June 19, 1984 Dear Heinz: It is unbelievable to think that you have reached the age of 80. As you probably know, I told Dieter von Wettstein that I would not be submitting a paper to the anniversary issue of the Compt Rendu since I have been somewhat out of commission, scientifically, the last couple of years, having made an abortive move to Israel which fell through because the biotech company could not get itself started, and because it has taken me quite a while to get my new laboratory at Johns Hopkins underway. Let me simply reiterate what I wrote to you on the occasion of your 70th birthday. As you may remember, you and Karen were extremely important factors in my development as a raw recruit in the old days, and I have never forgotten those marvelous times -- both scientifically and socially. I hope you are well and happy, and continue to be the perceptive and humorous philosopher that I have known so long. As ever, Chris Anfinsen
