Dear Dr Anfinsen it gives me great pleasure to learn that you have been named to share the 1972 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.  Your brilliant research achievements have been recognized in the world wide scientific community.  Now this has been kept by the highest professional honor that the world knows.  All of us in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare take the deepest pride in your work.  Your career represents public service at its best.
I know that in addition to your own achievements you have also given generously of yourself in fostering and encouraging the education and research of others both in and beyond the National Institute of Health.
