continually making progress and adding special features to our goods, all of them being in the direction ol 
practicability and durability, and it is for the purpose of calling the attention of our customers to such additions 
that we now issue this book. 
We here introduce to you a line of Specialties, in the way of Sterilizing Apparatus, Food Cars and Carriers, 
and Heavy Tinware for Hospitals and other Institutions requiring such goods, of a quality far superior to the regular stock 
goods on the market, and at a price as low as can be with profit to ourselves and satisfaction to our customers. 
We have for a long time manufactured Our Own Brass Work, and have recently put in A Nickel Plating Plant, 
and are prepared to offer to all buyers increased facilities for turning out work, and the same careful attention to their 
wants, which we have always given.

Sterilizing Apparatus for Drinking, Cooking and Surgical Purposes. 
OPERATED BY EITHER STEAM OR GAS, AND MADE EITHER PORTABLE OR STATIONARY. 
We offer for use in Hospitals, and for General Surgical Purposes, the following assortment of Sterilizing Apparatus, and would say that, while these 
are, in our judgment, the most economical and durable of any in the market, we do not confine ourselves to these designs, but are prepared and shall be happy 
to make Sterilizing Apparatus of any size and of any material, to conform to the ideas of the medical profession who may favor us with their work. 
Advanced minds in the science of Surgery concede the fact that absolute asceptic conditions and assured sterility of Instruments, Bandages, 
Gauzes, Gut, Silk, Solutions, etc., make it possible to successfully perform operations, which before were considered almost impossible without fatal 
results. That perfect cleanliness is attained, depends chiefly upon the Surgeon and Attendants; and to be assured of sterility in appliances, such 
apparatus must be employed as the light of scientific investigation reveals to be essential. All authorities in Bacteriology of Europe and America 
admit that steam at low pressure (5 to 10 pounds) is the only agent of reliance to destroy any and all germs of transmissible disease. The sensible 
effect of steam heat at the pressure named is from E. to 2410 F., penetrating to the interior of the closest wrapped package. Since steam 
is necessary for the purpose, the only question remaining is, how to obtain it conveniently, cheaply, and operate it satisfactorily. 
The apparatus we offer secures for the Surgeon the positive conditions of sterility sought; it gives him dry dressings to apply to the wound • 
it assures him solutions that are freed from every form of life ; and the apparatus is in attractive form, safe, sure and convenient of operation. 
For heating, a steam coil, or gas is used. The steam for sterilization is generated within the apparatus to insure its purity. Should steam 
be used in the chamber of sterilization from the plant of an Institution, it is liable to carry impurities with it, existing either in the boiler or in the 
pipes of conveyance.

DISINFECTING OR STERILIZING OVEN. 
NUMBER I—2o inches diameter by 50 inches long. 
It is designed to place these ovens as shown projecting through a wall. Doors are provided in both ends, one of which is in a contamin- 
ated or receiving room, the other in a room provided for the purpose of handling the purified articles as they come from oven. This oven is made 
of material best adapted to the use for which it is built and is usually of dimensions as above, but size of chamber may be so enlarged as to per- 
mit of the reception of mattresses and other bulky articles. The trimmings and fittings are of best quality and finish and embrace a Pressure 
Gauge, Safety Valve, and other necessary attachments. 6

DRESSING STERILIZERS. 
We invite attention to the illustrations on this and succeeding 
page showing our several forms of sterilizers for dressings, bandages, 
etc. The- Cylindrical one is made of extra heavy cold-rolled copper 
with heads of cast bronze, fittings and trimmings of brass all highly 
polished. The rectangular one is made of heavy cast brass, highly 
polished, with heads and door of cast bronze and all fittings and

trimmings of brass highly polished. In both these forms of Steril- 
izer the articulating surface of door and head are closely fitted, 
forming an absolutely steam tight joint without the use of packing. 
The Stands are of wrought iron, coated with a superfine quality 
of hard finish white enamel. These Sterilizers are strongly and 
well built to resist high pressure—still, as the maximum 
required for the purpose is but 10 pounds, we adjust the safety 
valve to relieve at about that point. 
In anticipation of the inquiry, ‘ ‘ How are dry dressings assuredly 
obtained after steaming ?’ ’ we will say : If the apparatus is gas 
heated, the cylinder above the water becomes highly heated, super- 
drying the vapor so that the moisture first forced into the fabric dries 
out; the effect of the work being—First: moist-heating, followed 
by super-drying—the perfection of results for Surgical work. If 
steam coil is used instead of gas for generating vapor, provision is 
made for withdrawing the water after the steaming; drying by 
radiation of heat from the coil.

They are made from diagonally woven brass wire, mesh. The upper portion is hinged, forming a retaining cover. The cage is used for processing surgeons’ and 
attendants’ clothing, blankets, towels, and other large articles. 
CONVEYANCE BOXES.—(As Shown in Cut on Page 8.) 
Are made from copper coated with pure tin, are cylindrical or rectangular in form, as preferred. Of the cylindrical form we make two sizes, viz.: inches, or 
inches. Of the smaller sizes 30 can be used at one time in the No. 2 Sterilizer, or 9of the large size. These boxes are made in two parts—one completely telescoping the other. The 
innner one carries the dressings. In processing, the two parts are not completely closed, but the perforations shown (see illustration) are left exposed so that the steam passes through 
the boxes freely. Before removing the boxes from the oven, the parts are closed tightly, preventing exposure of contents.

joint being obtained 
without the use of 
soft packing. 
Regular size, inches long by 12 inches wide by 6% inches deep. 
Made of highly planished and polished copper. All hinges and trimmings 
of highly polished cast brass ; the tray of heavy copper, retinned and the 
whole mounted upon a table of light iron, finished in gloss white, baked on 
under a high degree of heat. 
The Sterilizer is supported on a light galvanized iron stand. A powerful 
gas burner fixed beneath the cylinder generates the steam quickly to 10 
pounds’ pressure, at which point the safety valve relieves. 
With each Sterilizer is furnished a perforated metal cage with two perforated 
metal diaphragms dividing the cage into 3 compartments, all made from 
copper, coated with pure tin. In addition to these items, we furnish Safety, 
Relief and Draw-Off Valves and Pressure Gauge. In fact the Sterilizer is 
shipped from our factory, complete in every detail, ready for use.

Some means of keeping food hot after it is cooked is a necessity, and one of the best and simplest contrivances is here shown. The above design was made 
especially for Roosevelt Hospital (N. Y. City) and is entirely of heavy polished Copper and Brass, with copper meat plates and covers and white porcelain Veget- 
able and Soup dishes with Copper Covers. The Vapor pipe attachment for conveying away the Steam and objectionable odors is a valuable adjunct. These 
tables can be made of any size with dishes and covers arranged to suit. BRAMHALL DEANE COMPANY, 
DEANE’S KEYSTONE STEAM COOKER 
These cuts show our 35-gallon Full-Jacketed Cooker, for roasting and boiling by steam. The body 
is cast in one piece, and is therefore jointless and free from packing The steam chamber extending under 
the'bottom and around the sides, boils the contents readily at a pressure of 10 pounds, and will operate 
safely under a high pressure, being tested at 200 pounds to the square inch. 
An important feature is the convenience with which the interior may be cleaned, the bottom having 
a large pit fitted with a removable strainer, and the draw-off pipe leading from this pit is furnished with 
our new pattern faucet, which will admit of a swab 
being passed through in cleansing it. The cover is 
small and easy to handle, is made of galvanized iron 
or of copper, and when not in use is stood upright 
as shown, being held in position by an arm fitting 
into a hollow block at back of cooker. The entire 
cover is then accessible for cleaning, is out of the 
way, and the opening is not obstructed as with a 
hinged cover. If desired, however, a hinged cover 
may be attached. This hollow block at the back 
of the cooker may be tapped for vapor pipe, and 
for introduction of hot and cold water. 
The shape, height and other features mentioned 
make it very convenient for use, and this, in con- 
nection with its adaptability to several purposes, 
render it a superior and desirable Steam Cooker.
