Extract from Records of the Meeting of the Society held Jan. 5, 1876. * * * * On motion of the Secretary, Voted, That that this code of By-Laws is now adopted, instead of and to the nullification of any and all other By-Laws previously adopted by this Society, and of any or all votes or regulations of the Society, of any kind, heretofore adopted, in so far as the same may conflict or interfere herewith. * * * * BY-LAWS. I. The Middlesex East District Medical Society consists of all the Fellows of the Massachusetts Medical Society who reside in Woburn, "Wakefield, Stoneham, Reading, Wilming- ton, Burlington, Melrose and Winchester. Each member is expected to sign the By-Laws of the District Society. II. The Annual Meeting of this Society shall be held between the fifteenth of April and the fifteenth of May, on a Wednesday, at least ten days before the annual meeting of the State Society, and unless otherwise ordered, upon the second Wednesday of May. III. Special meetings may be called by the President on the written application of four members. IV. At all meetings of the Society, ten members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business, but a less number may consider and act upon scientific matters or adjourn from time to time. V. Meetings for Medical Improvement shall be held as frequently as the Society shall, from time to time, determine. VI. Notice of all meetings shall be given by the Secre- tary, by a written or printed notice sent to each member; in case of special meetings a week previous to the date of meeting. VII. h hich member may be assessed such sums as the Society shall, from time to time, determine, to defray the expenses of the District Society. 4 VIII. At the Annual Meeting there shall he chosen by ballot, a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Librarian and Auditor for the District Society for the ensu- ing year. Also, by ballot, at the same meeting, for the State Society, five Censors for the examination of candidates in the Dis- trict, the allotted number of Councillors and one Commis- sioner of Trials. IX. The President, Vice President, Librarian and Audi- tor shall perform the duties usually devolving upon such offi- cers, and such other duties as may be assigned to them. • X. The Secretary shall keep a record of all meetings of the Society and perform the duties specified in Sec. XXII of the By-Laws of the Mass. Med. Society. lie shall also per- form such other duties as may be assigned to him. A Sec- retary pro tempore shall be chosen in case of his absence. XI. The Treasurer shall collect all assessments and pay all expenses of the Society on approval of the bills by the President, and shall in general have charge of the financial concerns of the Society. XII. The Records and the Accounts of the Secretary and Treasurer shall be subject to examination by the'Society whenever they deem it proper. XIII. No vote involving the expenditure of funds shall be allowed without notice given at a previous meeting. XIV. No By-Law shall be altered or amended or appeal- ed, nor shall any additional By-Law be adopted at any meet- ing, unless the proposed alteration, amendment or addition has been brought before the Society at a previous meeting to be acted upon at a subsequent meeting to that at which it was proposed. RULES AND REGULATIONS. 1. Unless otherwise previously ordered by the Society, or the Secretary is unable to arrange therefor, the meetings of the Society shall be holden on the Wednesday evening of each month nearest the full moon, at such time and place as the Secretary shall arrange and notify. (Mar. 24, 1875.) 2. The President shall deliver an address at the close of his official year. 3. The President is requested to appoint a reader for each meeting, who shall present a written report of some case occurring under his observation, which ease shall be subject of discussion in addition to any other cases which may be voluntarily reported. (May 8, 1872.) 4. The members of this Society shall prevent, so far as possible, the publication of their names in newspapers in connection with the accounts of accidents and other cases given therein, as news. (May 10, 1871.) 5. The proceedings of this Society shall not be made public, except by its Secretary under instructions. (Jan. 20, 1875.) G. The Order of Business for the Annual Meeting of each year shall be as follows, viz : —1. Call to order. —2. Records of the last meeting and action thereon. —3. Annual Reports of such officers as should make them. 6 —4. Reports of Standing and Special Committees as called. —5. Election of officers for year ensuing. —6. Annual Address of the President. —7. Installation of new officers. —8. General business. —9. Adjournment. (May 12, 1875.) 7. The Order of Business at each Regular Meeting of the Society shall be as follows, viz : —1. Call to order. —2. Records of last meeting and action thereon. —3. Unfinished Business. —4. New Business. —5. Reports of Special Committees. —6. Reports of Standing Committee. —7. Written communications and discussion thereon. —8. Presentation of specimens and discussion thereof. —9. Oral communication and discussion thereof. —10. Adjournment. 8. The Committee on Systematic Observation shall have charge of the securing of Scientific papers to be reported to the State Society. (See Com. M. M. S. 1875, Proceedings, p. 10.)—Dec. 8, 1875.
