GLYCO-THYMOLINE IN GYNECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO UTEROVAGINAL CATARRH. We submit the following olinioal reports not only because of the marked, and. speedy results following the simple plan of treatment with Glyco-Thymoline but because of the frequency with which these ofttime obstinate gynecological cases confront the practitioner in his everyday work. "It is remarkable the cleansing effect of Glyco- Thymol ine and the way it controls both acute and. chronic inflammation." CHRONIC LEUKORRHEA, Dr. C. E. BRANDENBURG, New York City. Fifteen months ago Mrs. X. came to me for treatment, giving the following history: Six years previous she had a miscarriage, since which she had been troubled with a profuse leukorrhea of a very foul odor. At her menstrual period she suffered greatly and flowed excessively. On examination the cervix was found to be nearly four times its normal size and so badly eroded as to have every appearance of a cancer and had been mistaken for such by one physician. The uterus was soft and boggy and very much enlarged. She had been to the hospital on two occasions and each time had been curetted, but this seemed only to aggravate the general condition. For over a year I treated her with every means at hand but to no purpose. I was making preparation for an operation, which would have meant the removal of the uterus, when my attention was drawn to Glyco-ThymolIne and I determined to give it a thorough trial before operative measures were to be further introduced. An intrauterine douche of Glyco- Thymoline in a 25% hot solution was administered and lamb's wool tampons saturated with pure Glyco-Thymoline were used. She began to improve from the first application. The leukorrhea became less and the odor disappeared entirely. The cervix took on a healthy look. The uterus decreased in size and became firm; in fact she is now nearly well after nine weeks' treatment with Glyoo-Thymoline. Leukorrhea Dr. C. G. Clark, New York City. Simple leukorrheal discharges if taken at their outset, may be easily controlled and more serious complications prevented. For the discharge itself treatment is purely local. For tamponing and douching I have found that Glyco-Thymoline gives the best results. In cases where the discharge is especially profuse and seropurulent in character the canal is douched twice daily and tampons saturated in Glyco- Thymoline inserted. To illustrate may I quote the following recent treatment: Miss M.F., aet 21. Complained of discharge from vagina which has been gradually getting worse. Sensation of fullness and heat in vagina and burning on urination. Patient in poor general health, appetite poor. Menstruation irregular. Complexion sallow and anemic. Vagina sensitive to touch and walls covered with this serous discharge. Labia slightly excoriated. Under the microscope discharge was composed chiefly of epithelial cells and few leucocytes. Douched patient with a warm Glyco-Thymoline solution (one ounce to the pint) and inserted tampon of cotton saturated with Glyco-Thymoline. Gave patient five gr. Blaud's t.i.d.p.c. Continued treatment daily for ten days as above, at which time discharge was greatly diminished. I then continued the douches of Glyco-Thymoline and water in proportion of one ounce to pint to be used daily. After about three weeks patient was entirely free of discharge, menstruation was regular and general health much improved. Vulvitis, Dr. A. F. Conrey, Baltimore, Md. Annie M., age 10 years, complained of painful urination and after several weeks of medicinal treatment was sent to the gynecological clinic for examination. The vulva showed signs of much local irritation and congestion. The labia minora were swollen to twice their natural size and completely closed the vulva. Urination was of course painful on account of contact of urine with the inflamed surfaces. Treatment: Absolute rest in bed. Frequent cleansing of the vulva with a mild solution of Glyco- Thymoline, followed immediately by a thorough spraying with a 50% solution of Glyco-Thymoline and a wet compress of the same strength solution applied directly to the parts. Chronic Erosion or Ulceration of the Cervix. Mrs. H., age 32, presented the following appearance: The cervical mucous membrane was so thickened and everted that it gave to the cervix the appearance of a prolapsed hemorrhoidal anus. The cervix was badly eroded and the engorged open cervical glands poured out their secretion thick and abundant upon the vulvo- vaginal surface. Treatment: Amputation of the cervix was advised but refused, so the patient was put to bed and the following treatment given: The cervix being cleaned, Churchill's Tr. Iodine was thoroughly applied to the intra-cervical mucosa every other day. A tampon of pure Glyco-ThymolIne was kept in close contact with the sides and mouth of the cervix and renewed every twelve hours. The patient was discharged cured in six weeks, the parts being thoroughly and completely reduced to their normal condition.
