DIRECTIONS TO CANDIDATES ■FOR- SURGEON AND SURGEON’S MATE, POE THE VOLUNTEER SERVICE, U. S. A. Bring, with you, when you come for examination, 1. One or more certificates, from a physician or physicians of undoubted standing, stating the time and place of your medical graduation, and your good standing among medical men. 2. Bring with you a certificate from one or more respectable persons, at- testing unequivocally to your temperate habits, your good standing in society, and the length of time you have practiced. All candidates must he medical graduates, in good standing among physi- cians, and of sound health. Surgeon’s Mates must have from 3 to 5, and Surgeons from 8 to 10 years of experience in practice. Certificates covering these pre-requisites must be approved by the Board, and be put on file with the Secretary, before you can be admitted to exam- ination. In estimating experience, double allowance will be made for time fully devoted to hospital attendance, after two years of study. Another examination will be held in this city, at the Hall of the House of Representatives, commencing at 2 o’clock, P. M., of "Wednesday, Oct. 16. Candidates hitherto unsuccessful, may be admitted to a second, but not to a third examination. The examination will be, as heretofore, in the form of printed questions, on large sheets, with blanks for written answers. All are examined in the same room, at the same time. Candidates are especially cautioned against arriving in the city too late to complete their files, or to commence their examination at the hour desig- nated. Surgeon’s Mates are in especial demand at the present time. All who have any thought of entering the service, are advised to be present at this examination.
