Regional facelifts Face -- surgery Surgery, Plastic (Critical) The module, part of a series on the aging face, clearly demonstrates a surgical technique for a facelift. The importance of the platysmal muscle, SMAS, and fat excision in the neck are discussed. Pre- and post-operative photographs illustrate concepts emphasized in the technical demonstration. More detail regarding incisions and judgement in adjusting the skin excision and closure, and a discussion of local anesthesia would increase the educational value of this program. This well-designed, effective presentation of some current facelifting techniques is highly recommended. Unlike the traditional facelift, regional facelifts isolate surgery to only one part of the face (such as the cheek, forehead, or neck.) The best candidates for this procedure are described as women with dry, thin skin with an oval face and high cheekbones. Several slides are shown with before/after photos to show viewers the removal of fat from a patient’s cheek or neck. This is followed by a videosurgery, which is narrated step by step.
