<dc:title>Ataxia in childhood</dc:title>
<dc:subject>Ataxia</dc:subject>
<dc:description>(Critical) After an introduction consisting of a statement of objectives and definition and classification of ataxias, this program presents eight children with various types of ataxia. Conditions illustrated include cerebro-cerebellar disorder of unknown cause but with opsoclonus, hereditary cerebellar degeneration, medulloblastoma after surgery and irradiation, acute cerebellar ataxia of unknown cause, ataxia telangiectasia, Charcot-Marie-Tooth's Disease and Friedreich's ataxia. The demonstration of ataxia telangiectasia is excellent; the rest are adequate. The definition of ataxia is appropriate, but the explaination of the classification is inconsistent. The accuracy of some statements is questionable. The program has a nice collection of rare disorders which often have spectacular clinical presentations. It may be quite useful for educating beginning specialists in pediatric neurology and is recommended.</dc:description>
