They are loosely supervised by adults but are presented as beings in their own right, able to solve minor problems, help one another, and figure out the world around them. The joys of their rural setting are emphasized. This American-made film was produced in the earlier years of World War II, when many British children had been evacuated to the countryside to protect them from expected German bombing.
