<dc:title>Francis Crick and other scientists at a meeting of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) held at Konstanz, Germany</dc:title>
<dc:description>Crick is second from the left, with his head resting on his forearms. The subject of the meeting was the planning of the European Laboratory of Molecular Biology, especially the inclusion of "outstations," branch laboratories in four European cities established in addition to the main laboratory, and the emphasis on technological development and service functions the laboratory was to perform for scientists from member nations. The laboratory was established in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1974, with Crick's Cambridge colleague, John Kendrew, as its first Director General.. As a frequent participant at conferences, lectures, and seminars, Crick was known for his trenchant and unsparing but fair-minded criticism.</dc:description>
