United States - Abstract:
- This early 1970s film mixes animation with live-action interviews to explain the function of newly created neighborhood health centers and health maintenance organizations (HMOs). The animation depicts a fictional, unnamed man who is frustrated with the bureaucracy, costs, and confusing nature of the current healthcare system as he knows it, then has it explained to him how neighborhood health centers and HMOs can help. Real interviews are interspersed with this narrative, both with regular individuals expressing their own frustrations and with healthcare professionals. The goal is to help people have more affordable healthcare using a variety of means including pre-payment, physicians' assistants, extended care facilities, and more, the idea being that if people are able to stay healthy, it will cost them less in the long term.
