United States - Abstract:
- Examines the broad range of health and support services needed to protect and promote the physical and mental health of the aged. The case of Edna, who with her husband John is in the process of moving to a small flat from a larger home when she suffers a stroke, is highlighted. There are increasing numbers of "Ednas" in our nation and the question is posed, Are your communities ready for Edna? The film describes advances in health care that enable longer lives, but also the complications of meeting the needs of the aged, who may face medical or financial challenges, the need to relocate, the loss of a spouse, and the distress of grown children coming to terms with the changes. The film is directed at health authorities and community leaders to encourage them to think about and implement solutions at the local level to care properly for the elderly in the community.
