This 1988 news story features Dr. Anthony S. Fauci discussing children infected with the AIDS virus and the methods used to treat them. This includes a new multimillion-dollar program begun by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases aimed at testing new ways of treating the disease in children. These clinical trials will be conducted at medical centers across the country, adapting methods already used for testing and treating adult patients. Following the three-minute news segment, there are additional clips of Dr. Fauci speaking about the immunology of the disease in adults and children and about the new research program. A list of the different medical centers is included, followed by B-roll clips of children in the hospital and at play.
