Population Control
Population Growth - Abstract:
- This film treats population control, food supply, and living space as inseparable problems. Methods of birth control, sterilization, and abortion are explained. An x-ray movie sequence, using an image intensifier, shows an intrauterine device coiling into place in the invisible womb. The film states that the risk of unwanted pregnancy exists and responsible couples react appropriately. Using animated sequences to illustrate the results of unchecked growth, the film discusses two approaches to controlling population. Method One is "social control." Method two is modern contraception. Topics include IUD, pill, foams and gels, diaphragm, rhythm method, condom, withdrawal, sterilization for males and females, and abortion. Discussion is accompanied by statistics on effectiveness. The film promotes small families as the ideal.
