- Presents symbols used in construction of the human pedigree. Illustrates autosomal dominal inheritance using pedigrees of brachydactyly and achondroplastic dwarfism. Pedigrees of albinism, Crigler-Najjar syndrome, and Morquio syndrome illustrate autosomal recessive inheritance. X-linked hemophilia and Vitamin D-resistant rickets pedigrees, along with pedigrees of various kinds of mating, show the consequences of X-linked inheritance to male and female offspring. Pedigrees illustrating the concepts of allelism and non-allelism including various aberrant hemoglobins and congential deaf-mutism. The film also defines genetic linkage and demonstrates informative matings. Various known linkage relations are depicted, e.g.,Lutheran and secretor loci, elliptocytosis and Rh loci, ABO and nail patella loci. The maximum likelihood method of analyzing linkage data is described. The Hardy-Weinberg law is clearly illustrated as are segregation analysis and ascertainment of bias in collecting data. Factors disturbing the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, including genetic drift, gene flow, mutation and selection are discussed.
