Abstract:
This film shows the three stages of normal labor, first through animation and models, then on an actual case. It shows the delivery, unaided by a physician of a 9 lb. 4 oz. boy. Then, the film shows the conduct of labor including duties of the physician in his examinations and repair of a 1+ and second degree tear of the peritoneum and the after-care of the mother and baby. Shot at the Chicago Lying-in Hospital at the University of Chicago, the film shows a painting of the hospital's exterior and contains one birth shot at both regular and slow motion speeds.
