Abstract:
(Critical) This program is a videotaped lecture given by Dr. J. A. Simpson, probably about 1970, presenting some of his research on myasthenia gravis and discussing the popular hypotheses of that time concerning the etiology of the disease. Since Dr. Simpson is an acknowledged pioneer in this field, the presentation has some historical interest. However, there is a complete absence of information about recent discoveries concerning etiology, such as the importance of autoantibodies against cholinergic receptors. Additionally, because the visual and technical quality are so poor, the program cannot be recommended for use to anyone other than, perhaps, a student of medical history.
