Abstract:
(Critical) This program demonstrates a surgical excisional biopsy of the external intercostal muscle. Anesthesia, excision, suturing, and post-operative care of the tissue are outlined and are briefly compared with other techniques. Neither indications for the procedures nor the appropriate types of patients for them are discussed. The visualization is good, although the movement is somewhat jerky, and an anatomical diagram or a diagrammatic overview of the procedure would be helpful. More discussion on the use of muscle biopsy and electrophysiology in the differential diagnosis of neuromuscular disease should be incorporated. The scope and objectives are not clearly stated, nevertheless, the content is good, and the program is recommended for use.
