Abstract:
(Critical) This program presents indications and techniques for periapical surgery utilizing a scalloped flap. This scalloped flap is compared to other surgical endodontic approaches in regard to access and post-operative problems. Apicoectomy and retrograde amalgam techniques as well as root apex resection techniques are demonstrated. More detailed information is needed on surgical indications and flap design. There are problems with some camera angles, and also with the narrator's voice, which trails off at times during surgery. Explanation of the use of the Zn-free amalgam is questionable and the surgical defect should have been packed prior to amalgam placement. There is inadequate anesthesia, with no masoplatine injection given. There is no apex location after flap is raised. Despite these flaws the flim's objectives are clearly stated and the pace is good. The program is recommended with some reservation for use.
