Abstract:
(Critical) A step by step description of the arterial blood puncture technique is presented in this program including a rationale for the procedure, the anatomy of the arterial system, the equipment needed and detailed procedures. The procedures are specifically recommended by the University of Illinois Medical Center and thus may vary at other institutions. The study guide is useful for self-learning. While the program is strong on procedures it is weak on underlying principles. It is recommended with some reservations because of its potential local limitations.
